Black mates in three.

Set design for Mousse Publishing at Miart 2016, Milano.

A chess problem, also called a chess composition, is a puzzle set by somebody using chess pieces on a chess board, that presents the solver with a particular task to be achieved. For instance, a position might be given with the instruction that White is to move first, and checkmate Black in two moves against any possible defense. A person who creates such problems is known as a composer.
We have precise logistical and economical needs. Haste. Precise. Sober.
We build a large surface without the use of tools. With three simple steps: the positioning of the trestles, the overlap of several materials, the fixing of the latter thanks to some clamps. Between the two plywood layers we use a few copies of the latest issue of Mousse magazine, so as to give strength to the composition and obtain two different exposure levels. The top is the proper display, the bottom serves as a storehouse for the extra copies. The editions on display are in perfect correspondence with those below.
